How to generate inspiration.

Analyse what you already have in your community.

You don’t need a big city for people to have unique experiences that inspire you and others. The unusual can be all that is required. In most communities, the local people usually take what they have to offer for granted. They are so used to seeing or experiencing a feature of the small town or village that they think it will be of no interest to anyone else. Investigate and analyse the world for what you don’t know instead of trying to brand it with what you do know. It would help if you wanted to be different and better than other alternative communities.

Analysing what already exists in your community is critical for encouraging growth, efficiency, and meaningful progress. Understanding your current assets, whether physical infrastructure, skills, resources, or relationships, enables you to maximise potential before seeking external solutions.

Communities often overlook existing strengths in pursuing new opportunities, missing ways to repurpose, improve, or collaborate using what they already have.

Analysing your community also builds stronger relationships. It encourages collaboration by identifying individuals, groups, or organisations that share goals or can complement one another’s efforts. This can help develop strategic alliances that drive initiatives, increase local engagement, and empower community members to take ownership of solutions.

This approach helps you pinpoint challenges, creating a clear picture of what’s working or missing and where resources are best allocated. It ensures decisions are based on evidence rather than assumptions, leading to more targeted, impactful actions and outcomes.

Analysing what you already have creates a foundation for innovation and progress. It encourages self-reliance, highlights collective strengths, and builds a stronger, more resilient community that works together toward shared goals.

I have always been amazed at what visitors and tourists to a community will see and enjoy. The problem is that there are not enough facilities for accommodation and eating places to keep them around and spend money while imparting their observations, ideas and maybe even significant opportunities.

Identify people who can examine the best practical data, information and knowledge and people and discover what matters and will lead to community breakthroughs.
