Psychological support for sustainable growth.

Very few surveys or reports on business consider what might be termed the psychological factors involved in the ownership and running of an organisation. These things influence the people driving the desired outcomes, whether leaders, managers, sales, or service people.

Understanding why the people involved do what they do, such as why they take risks, how they respond to economic changes, how they react to a crisis, the difference in mindsets between males and females, and their willingness to invest in advice that might substantially improve the profitability and growth of their business.

Research indicates businesses with fewer than five employees use accountants and lawyers as their principal business advisers.  They tend to rely on them for recommendations to other service advisers covering marketing, human resources, technology, etc.

Businesses with ten or more employees tend to have a broader view of the community’s services and have broader contacts and capacities to use those services.

We have also noticed that businesses tend to focus on and rely upon cost-restraint measures rather than adequately researched and planned expenditures for growth.

Taking the physical and psychological factors together, we believe a growing need exists to provide adequate support for businesses and non-profit organisations. There is an increasing demand to identify and deal with business people’s problems and frustrations.

Many will fear what psychological support might reveal about their future; they would instead prefer to remain in their comfort zones and maintain the status quo so they never grow.

Support others as you would expect them to help you.

There is an increasing need to relieve business people’s real and imagined fears and create a working environment where they have peace of mind, without which the business’s future becomes threatened.

Accept personal responsibility for your future and stop doubting it. Have faith and refuse to complain or criticise. If you want to achieve your aspirations, trust and follow those who can support you.

Businesses are looking for more practical, commonsense business advice delivered in small business language and by people with helpful information, knowledge and experience.

Apart from the physical requirements of servicing a business, the psychological element must be considered when defining a professional business advisor.

In any community or network, the capacity to provide substantial psychological and material support should not be underestimated at each business and management development stage.

Quotable quotes.

“Agility and practical psychological support count as people cope with adversity and the exponential rate of change in the world today”. Peter Sergeant

“A big myth is advisors and leaders do it alone’. It may have been the case years ago, but the truth today is successful people seek advice and support in everything they desire to change”. Peter Sergeant
